Kishanganga Dispute: Pakistan Fails to Get Interim Stay

In our last post on the Kishanganga Dispute, we had stated that Pakistan had sought interim stay of the Kishanganga Hydroelectric Project being undertaken by India in the Indus River Basin. Pakistan's application for interim stay was heard by the Seven member Arbitral Tribunal during the 25-27 August 2011 hearings. Pakistan's main ground for interim stay seems to be that the Kishanganga project would hamper its own Neelum Jhelum Hydroelectric Project. According to news reports, the application for interim stay has been rejected by the Tribunal. However, the arbitral tribunal asked India to submit a report on the environmental effects of the dam by September 7. We'll keep the readers posted on further developments.
